| My index finger started to sting in the second joint down and turned purple and was very stiff over the next few days. It was getting better, when it happened again. It is now puffy but the purple color is going away. I have no idea what this is, unless some kind of arthritis. |

| My middle finger looks bruised, but I don't recall injuring it? The palm side of my entire finger (from tip to where it joins my hand) is dark (like a minor bruise) and the top side of just the middle section looks buised (from joint to joint). I don't see any bite marks, but could it possibly be a spider bite? It doesn't hurt at all. Two days ago when it first started looking bruised, it was just a little swollen on the palm side in the middle, but not very much. |

Posted: 11/10/07 - 21:50 Post subject: sudden stinging in fingers |
| this has happened to me as well. I was walking around a mall when all of a sudden my left ring finger felt like it was stung on the inside and I looked down and saw the vein bulging, then it got all purple. I imediately removed my ring, because there was some slight swelling. It resolved a few days later. It terrified me. I am in the healthcare profession, and all i could think of was a clot or just my vein bursting, and not knowing why was scary. Then again tonight I felt the same sensation in my index finger on the same hand, but I didn't notice any swelling or bruising, and my left arm seems to be tingling, like I got goose bumps on it. When this happens I am not sure what to do. Do I go to the ER/ making an appointment at my GP takes about a month to get. |

| Tonight my left middle finger turned white parlty and then dark. Finger felt ice cold now feels warmer but swollen and dark but not black like earlier. I am not sure why but the palm of my hand is dark blue leading from the finger and spreads out about the size of a half dollar. I too am concerned could be a clot. |

| Hi, everyone. Just taking a stab at researching this, and it seems like this might be Achenbach's Syndrome. You may want to research this. |

| I just took off my gloves and felt like I had been stung on my middle finger. The finger was swollen and a black bruise was quickly developing. Apart from thinking I could have been stung I had no idea what it could be. I asked my dad who is a doctor and he said that it was a popped vein. Easy to damage on your fingers apparently, not much protecting them I suppose. Will heal within 2 weeks. No reason to see doctor unless you have any other bleeding or bruising which seems unusual, or it keeps happening. So apparently take it easy and don't be alarmed. |

Everyone seems to be explaining the same symptoms but only one person has offered an idea of what this could be. I don't think it is Auchenbach's syndrome, because I don't feel any pain. I only feel tightness and a see a little bruising discoloration.
I washed my hands this evening before dinner and sat down at the table. I felt no pain like a sting and there is no sign of any external damage to my left index finger at the joint just above knuckle. It started swelling up rapidly out of no where. Within a 2 minutes it swelled up to the size of a marble. I iced it for a few minutes and elevated it and the swelling seems to be subsiding. The swelling is still there and it is a little unsettling because I can't explain how it happened or what is causing it. Obviously, if anyone knows anything about what this might be, I would love to know.
I don't feel it warrants a trip to the emergency room, but who knows. |

Posted: 02/02/08 - 19:52 Post subject: Painful fingers |
I was researching my "weird fingers" on the internet just now, and happened across this site. Nice to hear that there are other people with similar weird occurences!
I too often get these sensations happening to parts of my fingers, and occasionally my toes. Today, out of nowhere (I was just walkting from one room to the next), the middle finger on my left hand suddenly had that familiar "pulling, painful sensation" on the upper right part of the finger pad (palm side up) near the top finger joint of the finger.
In the past, I have found that the only thing that helps is if I put ice on it right away (numbs the pained feeling, I guess). I did that, and massaged as well. Eventually the pain went away. but I am left with a slightly swollen, numb, stiff finger which looks darker and slightly bluish around the finger pad side, mostly around the lower joint, although the upper joint is sore to the touch.
Having had this happen in the past I know that it will take about 2-3 days for it to go away completely. I don't seem to have any pattern to occurences. Sometimes it will happen if I am carrying, suspending weight from the fingers (like plastic shopping bags), other times it will just happen on its own, like today.
I came across the term Achenbach's syndrome but not many details about it. ANyone know more? If you go to a doctor, would it be to someone focusing on vascular issues?
THanks, |
