upper adominal disconfort after eating while sitting

I have a discomfort like someone is poking me after I eat right below my sternum. I have gained a few pounds in the last couple of months. This is the only symptom I have and I wonder if is just because of my extra weight and my pants being tighter. Anybody had this before?
