urinary retention occurring with menstruation

I have had a few sever episodes of urinary retention in the last year or so. I have had catheter bags for 10 days each time. I went to the urologist and he put me on Flomax. It helped until yesterday. I have been on the medicine for approximately one month. Today, I figured out what seems to trigger my urinary retention. Every time that I have had an episode, I have been on my period. I have an IUD. Could there be some connection between my period or my IUD and my urinary retention?? If so, what are the possibilities?? Thank you!!!
