Unsuficient production of thyroid hormone may result from a chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland called Hashimoto's thyroiditis; surgical removal of part or all of the thyroid gland; iodine deficiency; congenital abnormalities like an absence of the thyroid gland; radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism or radiation for cancers. It can be idiopathic, which means that the cause is not known. There are quite many condition levoxyl is used for. It is prescribed for patients with goiter, solitary thyroid nodule, multinodular goiter, thyroid cancer, thyroiditis, and hyperthyroidism treated with antithyroid drugs. Some physicians use it even for treating depression as it can increase the effectiveness of certain antidepressants.
