I know that OxyContin contains oxycodone, which is a very strong narcotic pain reliever similar to morphine. OxyContin is designed so that the oxycodone is slowly released over time, allowing it to be used twice daily, this is info I found out of my friend. He told me I should never break, chew, or crush the OxyContin tablet. This sound like treatening, so I would like to know which usual dosage of OxyContin is. I would like to hear anything you could find useful, because I started to use this drug.

Problem with breaking OxyContin tablets is that causes a large amount of Oxycodone to be released from the tablet all at once. This might potentially result in a dangerous or fatal drug overdose. Only a physician can determine if OxyContin is a good choice to manage your pain. If you have pain every day that lasts for a large part of the day, and the pain is moderate or severe in intensity, OxyContin may be a good choice for you. However, since you started with OxyContin therapy, I believe you already have spoken with your physician. Taking OxyContin daily can result in physical dependence, a condition in which the body shows signs of narcotic withdrawal. That is a condition body reacts if the OxyContin is stopped suddenly. Withdrawal is not the same thing as addiction, which represents a situation where people obtain and take narcotics because of a psychological need. Physical dependence can be treated by slowly under the advice of a physician by slowing decreasing the OxyContin dose. It should be done once, when it is no longer needed for the treatment of pain. Concerns of addiction should not prevent patients with appropriate pain conditions from using OxyContin. The controlled-release nature of the formulation allows OxyContin to be effectively administered every 12 hours, so this could tell you enough about usual dosage of OxyContin.

Hi Nitta,

Oxycontin is a brand name for the generic oxycodone.

They come in 10, 20 40 and 80 mg, I believe.

Your friend is right about not crushing or cutting in half the drug.

Your doctor should recommend the proper amount, the less the better naturally.

I do 40mg a day, and have been doing so for over two years.

So far, I have not experienced any problems of any kind, except my pain is under control.

Luck,

longknife

Hello

I am writing as I saw your were taking this medication - my mother has it prescribed it today but she is afraid it will affect to her mobility. She has been taking Adolonta and then the oncologist prescribed her the Matrifen in patches. After the second she decided not to use them as they would leave her sleepy and with not energy.

How oxycontin is doing to you?

Many thanks,

Juan

it will initially give your mom energy but the longer she is on it the more she will get used it ,at first it works great but the effects decrease every month,i,ve been on them for 5 years.if your mom can avoid using them she should avoid them..the are a necessary evil they work but you will pay with your body and mind for that relief....if anyone out there can avoid using oxi,s AVOID THEM THERE ARE OTHER MEDS...this is my first and more then likley my last but what i said comes from experience.stay away and if you can keep others away from oxi,s...sorry for the rudeness but unfortunately some of you will learn why..god bless and good luck..

I have been on the oxycotin for 6 years now my doctor is trying to take me off of these by using another medicine he offered me either methadone or morphine neither one sounds good this tells me he thinks I am addicted and he is proabley right,I wish I could turn back the clock and never have taken the first pill.I was in a serious car accident and needed pain medication but in reality I should have been taken off of these years ago,now I am afraid of withdrawel symptoms.I am 48 yrs.old and have never been through anything like this.My advice is to stay away from this drug, but if you have to have it make sure you don't stay on it to long like I have done.It is a great pain medication the problem is knowing when to stop.I have chronic pain that I will always have due to my accident.I just wanted to say be careful it is a stronge medication know what you are getting into before you start.I am not ditching oxycotin because it really helped me but again be careful.

Hi i have been given Temgesic and Durogesic patches to take for my Osteo arthritis along with bulged discs in the lower thorasic region. I am finding that i am still in the same amount of pain now as before i was on this medication. Before i was on these i was on 60 mg of Dihydrocodiene 3 times a day but feel i am still in pain. My GP can't believe i am still in as much pain now as before., i was hoping changing my meds would give me more pain relief. A family member has suggested i ask to try Oxicontin just to see if there is a consderable difference in my pain but i am scared to try it as have heard of all the story's about Oxicontin being not goo for your body and things. Can anyone advice me more. Sorry for all the info. Thanks Jenny xxx

If you take your pain meds just to the point the pain stops, you'll do ok. Most, if they take them that way, don't get addicted. Yes, one will experience withdrawal when you decide to try stopping using them, but if one decreases the dosage over a couple of weeks it's not so bad.

I found cannabis and noni Juice were what handled my pain the best. I'd been on Morphine and oxicodone for several years, finally arriving at the point I could no longer face taking either med. They were making me itch and I was getting sores from scratching. I was also constipated for all that time, and that was adding to the toxic load on my body.

I've been away from everything now for more than two years, and am glad to have escaped. Oh, I took a fall and did a 70% compression fracture of my L1 vertebra, so there was some serious pain involved. noni aloha.com noni is the kind. Some of the others are not so hot.

My best wishes for healing!!! May everyone be pain free!!

whether you like it or not oxycodone is wat it is all other names are trade names and fall into the narcotic, analgesic drug class you could go on and on about the the shapes forms watever. but its really as simple as this for starters dont take methadone to get off oxycontin you can get off them mate trust me.the reason why you should not crush the tablet is its slow release design, if you do it this simple youl burn the active ingredient straight away and your pain relife will not be affective as for your usuall dose that is determined by your gp oxycontin is genrally 1 tablet of 10mg every 12 hours for severe pain this can be raised to 2 tablets every 12 hours however the prescribed dose may vary and tablets may vary in strength as perscribed by your gp
