I am 22 and am a little worried about some discharge I am having. I first noticed some when I finished my last period back in Dec 05. I haven't had my period since then and I haven't had sex since the beginning of January. I am now noticing some brownish discharge with a little bit of blood as well. what could this be? I s this normal when you have irregular periods?
Vaginal discharge is normal and we have different amounts throughout out menstrual cycle. The only time when discharge should be checked is when it is followed by bad odor or itchiness or other symptoms.
The bloody tinge you are having could be indicating that your period is approaching or it could even indicate ovulation. However, it could also be a sign of a disorder.
Considering you don’t have any additional symptoms like pain, itching, redness, bad odor I would say this is normal.
Bleeding for no reason could be due to cervical polyps, or ovarian cysts and if the bleeding continues and you don’t get your period I would have it checked just for the piece of your mind.
If your previous sexual activities have been unprotected, there is a possibility that you contracted Chlamydia, a bacterial infection that can also cause bleeding and discharge but is most often asymptomatic. If you see a gynecologist, s/he may perform a full examination to see if anything’s the matter.
