hi, seven yrs ago i had a miscarriage at 16 weeks, the doctor at that time said it was incompetent cervix. i am currently 16 weeks pregnant and my current doctor doesn't think my previous miscarriage was caused by an incomprtant cervix, he thinks it was infection after reviewing my medical records. ultrasounds that he has preformed show that i have a longer than normal cervix and it is not efacing. Is it possible that i don't have an incompetent cervix?

IC can happen once, and then never again. IC for many women depends on the specific preganncy itself, although it can be chronic.(meaning lonmg lasting)

It is possible that you did have IC due to an infection, and now that you are healthy you may not have any problems at all.
