my 8 yr old (that will be 9 in a few months) is healthy and very athletic. He weighs 80 lbs so I can imagine how upsetting you may feel. Go to GNC and get you some high protein high calorie powder to make shakes with.. You can even drink them in between meals for weight gain. Some of the shakes are 500 to 1000 calories each. I know some people that have use these shakes to replace weight theyve lost from Cemotherapy... Make a commitment to yourself to do this for atleast 1 month. I bet you could gain 8 to 10 lbs atleast. I have to watch my weight and if I done these shakes I would gain 20 lbs. I have to use the low calorie, low carb shakes as meal replacements to loose weight.

GOOD LUCK!~

Your best bet is a diet high in protein, calcium, and vitamins (all kinds)--that, along with exercise and weight lifting will make you bigger with muscle, not fat. Bulky, low fat and low cal foods (like cereal for instance) were my favorite growing up. And now im 6'5" and 190 pounds. Of course, im a guy but thats beside the point....

Xion, very good ... Yep, I agree with Xion completely! And I want to add ... Exercise, exercise and more exercise! Wink

NONE OF YOU CONSIDERED THAT BURNING FAT BEING EASIER THAN GAINING MUSCLE MASS AS A POSSIBILITY. (GIRL COULD GET EVEN SKINNIER EXERCISING/WORKING-OUT)

ONE CAN EAT LOW FAT, LOW CALORIE, LOW CARBOHYDRATE MEALS AND WORK OUT, AND TAKE PROTEIN AND VITAMINS AS SUPPLEMENTS TO GAIN MUSCLE. BUT WATCH WHEN THAT BACK FIRES AS THE FAT ZIP RIGHT OUT OF THEM AND THEY GET SKINNIER. BECAUSE GAINING MUSCLE CAN BE HARDER THAN LOSING FAT, WITH ONE PROGRESSING FASTER THAN THE OTHER.

THINGS TO CONSIDER ARE;

+ METABOLISM RATES, WHICH ALSO LINKS WITH SOMATOTYPES.
- EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT METABOLISM RATE, AND DIFFERENT BODY STRUCTURE. QUICK BREAKDOWN, SKINNER PEOPLE LOSE
FAT FASTER THAN THEY GAIN MUSCLE, BIGGER PEOPLE GAIN MUSCLE QUICKER THAN THEY LOSE FAT.
+ GLAND/ORGAN DYSFUNCTIONS AND HEALTH. (AGE).
- SOME PEOPLE HAVE CERTAIN GLANDS/ORGANS THAT DON'T WORK AT THE BALANCED RATE THAT THEY SHOULD. EX: PEOPLE WITH
LIVER DYSFUNCTIONS GAIN BELLY WEIGHT MOSTLY (WHY THEY CALL IT A BEER BELLY). AND SAME CAN PLAY BACKWARDS, INSTEAD
OF UNDER-FUNCTIONING ORGANS, ONE CAN HAVE OVER-WORKED OR UNDERDEVELOPED ORGANS.
+ DIET (OBVIOUSLY), AND BREAKFAST!!!
- PEOPLE SAY EAT HEALTHY. WHICH IS GENERALLY HEALTHIER SUBSTITUTIONS FOR WHAT YOU USED TO EAT. BUT DOESN'T MEAN EAT
LESS OF, OR LIGHTER. EX: OATMEAL IN THE MORNING IS A BAD IDEA, BECAUSE IT'' CAUSE YOU TO OVER-EAT LATER.
+ HOW YOU LIFT WEIGHTS
- YES.. DEPENDING "HOW" YOU LIFT A WEIGHT, DEPENDS WHAT TYPE OF MUSCLE FIBER YOU WORKOUT. AND ULTIMATELY IF OUR
PERFORMING MORE OF A AEROBIC OR ANAEROBIC EXERCISE.

IM NOT GONNA EVEN CONTINUE.

I'am a guy and here is some information that if used correctly will help. First eat at least 2500 callories a day or more. Next eat plenty of protien, fiber, vitamins, minerals, healthy fat (non-hydrogenated), also eat foods that will boost estrogen like soy and cheese (reserch for others), and estrogen injections would help also. Exersize either three times a week, working out the lower, mid and upper body, or six times a week alternating lower and upper body work out days (follow either one because your body needs a brake to repair your muscles). Run .5 miles each day you work out, this should be more of a warm up, just to get the blood pumping. Remeber go easy on the aerobic type exersizes, because you are tring to gain weight not lose wieght. You should consentrate on anarobic exersizes; pushing, pulling and lifting. To get more feminine proportions consintrate the majority of your body's development ( fat, muscule, and bone density/development from running and some from squats) in your lower body (butt, thieghs, hips), a medium amount of development in the upper body (fat, muscule, and bone density/development some from bench presses, etc.) and try to keep your mid section slim, but not skinny ( there are various types of decline situps, that consentrate on specific or general muscule groups). Thier are many benifits to exersize; it decreases stress (stress atrophies/prohibits the amount, shape and quality of fat, muscule, and bone development) and can lead to not having as full of a head of hiar. Exersizing creats for a more well developed heart and cerculatory system, which puts more blood into brian (equals more oxygen in the brian, which equals better cognitive function), also more dorphamines which create for a more up mood). strengthened ligaments and joints (if done when from an early age can thicken cartilage and promote well lubriccated joints), better nerve conections/cordination. Here is another point to be made, at the age of 12 to 18 months old and 12 to 16 years old a person adds fat cells (this is an average, but not nessasary specific to you). So if a person does not apply them selfs in the correct direction physicly or mentaly before or during 12 to 16 years old, this adversly affects the deveopment of your whole body. A national study shows that currently 86% of teenage girls are calcium defiecent. Here are some exersizes to build on, in addition to jogging squats (back straight, feet slightly wider than your shoulders, thieghs and calfs at 90 degrees to each other, knees not past your toes and make sure that you wearing a sqating belt to help support your back), leg presses, lunges, leg curls/extentions, bicep curls, tricep extentions ( sidways and backwards), lat pull downs, row machine, butterfly's, bench press, decline situps (i.e. arms crossed and tuching opposite shoulders/arms behind head, but not suporting it/ and elbows to opposite legs/knees with your arms crossed and tuching opposite shoulders). Make sure to use proper technique to limit the posiblity of damage to your body and use the most amount of muscule groups/fibers to get the most potenial out of them. A good suggestion is you should be able to squat twice what you can bench (eventualy) or if not squat 50% more than you can bench (eventualy), also do 3 to 4 sets of 6 to 8 reps, with medium to heavy weight. In the first 2 to 4 week of weight training/jogging your muscules will be sore and weak because of the build up of lactic acid in adition to be conditioned. Also you might get winded easy but after a month or two you be able to accomplish more. You will have sugnificant positive results in a year of continuious application of what I have said. Have a good time developing into ladies!!!

Yea, i'm a soccer player, and my legs are really scrawny. The doctor's are worried cause I'm not gaining weight. my mom thinks I'm trying to be anorexic, she has given me so many lectures on how she has had friends in the hospital with eating disorders. I'm only 12, but my sister is pure muscle, and I have chicken legs. Please I really want to know how to gain weight and not loose it from playing soccer.
