what are Gabapentin used for?

My son is 8 years old and we were at the seaside when the first attack happened. We were all frightened, he just fell and hit his head, and then the seizure came in the form of spasms. I was freaked while my husband took him to the hospital where he got Gabapentin. What is this drug used for? Will it really help my son?

Gabapentin is mostly used in combination with some other anti epileptics. It is used to deal with epilepsy characterized with motoric dysfunction. With proper use, it stabilizes the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain and prevents the seizures in that way. Unfortunately, he will have to take it for quite some time in order to eradicate the possibility of epileptic attack.
