what are the indications of warfarin?

My brother had a car accident and is in a hospital now. His pelvis is crushed and internal organs were damaged, bladder especially. He takes many medications including warfarin and I would like to know what that drug does, what is it for. what are the indications of warfarin? Are there any side effects I should know about?

Warfarin is anticoagulative drug used against making of coagulum. These are quite common with severe bone damage, long period laying and there are even possibilities of fatal end, if the thrombus has been created, which might happen. Indications are prevention and treatment of vein thrombosis, irregular heartbeat. As for side effects, I would have to say that internal bleeding could happen.
