Hi Sandy
I understand what you are saying.. My boyfriend does the same thing when we are watching TV. He jerks his head and he flickers his tongue out real fast. Then I will see him looking at me to see if I saw him. We have only been going out for a while and he has not told me that he has Turrets. I tried to ignore it when we first started dating but I notice it more when we are at his house watching tv or just sitting around. If we go out to eat, he is fine. But when we are alone he will blurt out "yea yea yea yea" and we laugh because I thought he was doing it because something was funny on TV. Then sometimes he will take his finger and flicker it on his lips real fast. I don't know how to approach him but I want him to feel comfortable telling me this. When I came in to work I said I need to look this up and see if this is what he has and sure enough what I am reading in this Forum is some of the stuff I see him doing. I don't want to leave him because he is such a sweet person and I truly like him, but I need to understand TS so I can be okay with it.

If he is at home watching tv and riding his exercise bike, he does all of the above plus shakes his head. I sat and watched him while riding the bike and watching a movie and he could go no longer than 6-7 seconds before the twitches/tics happened again. When he is not watching tv, he constantly clears his throat or has a dry cough. He has a squeeky noise he makes when he seems to be stressed or under pressure but thinks he is hiding this. I really do not know if he is aware he is doing any of this. Does this fit this disease? His biggest problems are when he is watching tv or in a movie theater.
Thanks!

Posted: 01/05/07 - 01:27 Post subject: Do I really have turrets or is it just caused by intense anx |
|
|
I never had any symptoms of turrets untill i started my senior year of High School. At first they only seemed to to happen in school or when i was under anxiety and stress but they seem to be getting worse. At first i would only shake my head slightly or make involentary movments that seemed to be triggered when i would think about them or became very anxious but they have become more frequent lately. I have been a chronic marijuana user for well over a year so when i went to my doctor he told me it could be caused by cannabis induced anxiety, but im not sure. I'v stopped smoking for a week now but the symptoms havent stoped, the involentary or wierd movments only seem to be getting worse. I'v allways been in the public eye and i never had this problem, but now am the center of reddicule for the dozens of Haters' on campus. When i try not to tic, i can moderatly control it but then its like I make SOME of the other Studets in class want to tic so badly that they start to move involentary.
I mean ...WTF!!!!! I can give turrets to my classmates>!?! Does that mean they have Turrets too?!? Is it infectious?!
This is really confusing and frustraiting, i mean i cant keep a Girlfriend or get hot ones unless i prove to them i can keep a straight face in public; Where i tend to get the most anxious and fearfull someone will notice....I have seriously been contemplating Suicide. My doctor proscibed (indoral and lexapro) to help control my fear and anxiety but its like they just get worse and worse nomatter what i do..... Both my parents and doctor dont think its turrets, infact most people dont, but im not sure..... When i think about how the hatters call me wierd and socialy sabotoge me , i get really pissed off and deppresesed and want to kill someone, somtimes myself.... what should i do?!? nothing seems to help....I mean do i even have turrets...?!? For a while i thought it was essential tremmors which involves involentary movments much like turrets but different. Is there a Diffinative way to find out? like a test or somthing?... Please, i need some guidence |

Does things that you would think an adult exotic dancer or somthing would like sticking tounge out, pelvic thrusts vocals are like uh hah uh hah over and over follewed by the burping farting sounds and is not exposed to adult movies etc. Puberty runs young in the family and this behavior seems to have progressed. I'm worried because this behavior is very unappropriate. Could these be symptoms? |

i have been having these spasms. are spasms the same as tics?
i know that tehre are different severities to this disorder.
but it happens when i'm not doing anything. i know that people normally have muscle smasms. but when i'm sitting still i'll have the spasms. my leg will flex. the whole thing. my fingers will twitch.
i'm know it's not like the whole tic thing. but i am doing a research paper on turrets. and i would like to know everything i can.
plus, it may help me.
all the spasms or twitches are of my extremedies but only my legs and foreams sometimes my fingers. and arms but yea. i am wondering what going on here |

Posted: 02/07/07 - 14:47 Post subject: Touretts Syndrome |
|
|
I am a cashier in a large grocery store and I recently met a young man who has Touretts syndorme. He barks, makes obscent hand gestures (middle finger) and displays facial and body tics and involuntary jumping.
Some of the people waiting on the line behind him and in front of him acted like they were afraid of him. I have never seen any one with this condition before, in fact I had never even heard of it, but somehow I sensed this was a neurological problem he had and not a case of him trying to offend people.
Later one of the other cashiers told me what was wrong with him.
I was wondering if this sounds too crazy to consider, but since there is no cure and it seems to be a lifelong condition, why not consult a priest for a exercism? I know it probably sounds crazy to some of you, but what could it hurt. I know a lot of things in this world are not fully understood and maybe it would help. Also even the suggestion of a 'healing' night help some people. Also maybe hypnosis could work.
It certainly sounds and looks like a case of possession. If you read about demonic possession - this could pass for it.
Ok, don't every body go crazy but what do you think? Could this be a situation where prayer might do the trick? Especially since nothing seems to really help? |

Posted: 02/12/07 - 09:45 Post subject: Did I really have epilepsy or could it have been turrets |
|
|
When I was 12 years old I started twiching my left shoulder and never noticed until my gran pointed it out to my parents. Other symptoms would include blinking my eyes hard, the left side of my body would feel unusual and it would be difficult to get my attention just by speaking to me. After about 9 months with some stays in hospital I was diagnosed with Epilepsy Partialis Continui or something like that and was put on Tegretol.
After a couple of years the twitching went away although the feeling remained and I stopped the medication when I was 16 years. I am now 27 years old and I have the urge to blink my eyes again with that same weired feeling in my left arm. The only way to stop the feeling is to apply pressure at certain points on me. This includes my face and head where I also get these feelings.
I noticed a documentary being advertised on TV about turrets where a lot things started sounding familiar. I used to think that turrets syndrone was mainly shouting abuse until I started investigating it a bit further.
Is it possible that the original diagnosis could have been incorrect? |
