First and most important thing a person can do is educate themselves on Hemorrhoids.

Know that Hemorrhoids are passed down by genetics and are likely caused by weak vein walls. Taking vein strengthening med's should be #1 on your list. (Horse Chestnut leaf is great. You can find these herds in med's like Hem-Relief and Vanapro.) Take it till symptoms go away and then take it daily for the rest of your life as a prevention.

Know that sitting too much, standing in one spot too much ( 1 hour or more) pushing while going #2 or conducting in strenuous activities causes hemorrhoids.

Know that living an unhealthy lifestyle contributes to Hemorrhoids. Eating bad foods, not taking in enough fiber, not drinking enough water, not exercising (walking) all helps the cause of Hemorrhoids developing.

Know that drugs and alcohol cause flare-ups. Drugs along with alcohol should be taken out of your daily habit and possibly not be used ever again unless you can and are willing to prove otherwise once the problem is cleared up and time is given to completely heal.

You husband needs to educate himself of this and make life changes. Also eating anything with nuts or peanut butter can cause flare-ups. It is recommended that you take this out of your diet for good.

I Personally had two external Hemorrhoids develop on me last month. After extensive research online I have followed the above advice and started taking Hem-relief daily. Since then I felt better and after roughly 10 days nearly felt my normal self again. Taking natural herbs as a remedy DOES WORK but works differently for some because of the fact that conditions vary between person as does the body. A mild case of Hemorrhoids might clear up within 2-10 days using natural remedies for some, and others with severe cases won't feel a change for possibly a month or two. It is suggested that if these products don't work for you to keep taking them to prevent other hemorrhoids from developing and making your life even more miserable. Apparently studies have shown that products like Hem-Relief work for nearly 95% of people who suffer from Hemorrhoids. Give it a shot, and if it works, keep using it as a prevention.
