THAT BABY IS AT SERIOUS RISK FOR A TON OF BIRTH DEFECTS
I dont know FL law.Im sorry I cant give you difinitive answers there. Until someone else comes along you could do a search on the internet and use keywords Florida domestic laws.
Your friend is more worried what they will do to her??? What about that child??? Is she planning on keeping the baby or give the baby up for adoption? It is irresponsible to do ANY drugs of ANY kind while pregnant. Even over the counter meds can have an effect on the unborn child. Is your friend even seeing an OB for her pregnancy?
She isnt just running the risk of birth defects. I would lay money down on it that that child will be born with some sort of neurological side effect. Pot effects her brain what makes her think it wont affect her babys brain? At the very least the baby will have serious learning disabilities and the Mother is consciously sentencing her child to that life.
Its not too late! Convince that woman that she needs to buck up and stop smoking pot. At least long enough to give that poor baby a fighting chance even if she is thinking about giving up the baby. There is no reason on Gods green earth that is good enough to justify why she is doing any drug while she is pregnant. However, you mentioned that she was doing other drugs at the beginning of this pregnancy and so the damage could already be done. The developing brain is at its MOST vulnerable in the first stage of pregnancy.
Tell her that if they find out that shes doing drugs they will put her in prison for 10 years. Anything to help her stop doing what shes doing to that child! If FL tests pregnant mothers for drugs the common sense would tell you there is probably consequences for that.
In my state, drug testing isnt mandatory but my conscience told me that when I became pregnant that I needed to treat my body like a temple so my child would have the best environment to develop. My baby was still born with Autism. I did everything I could. I read every book. I watched every baby show on TV. I knew though that keeping my body healthy and clean was the only thing I could do. The only thing I SHOULD do to give him a fighting chance in this already challenging world. At first I thought it was my fault and that maybe I overlooked something. I felt guity and was plagued with knowing that I would live with that guilt for the rest of my life as I watch my child struggle with every little thing. But I soon realized that I did everthing I could. There is no difinitive cause for Autism as of yet. Your friend however will be responsible for any defects the child will have. She can say to herself that, yes, she did infact cause the problems her child has. Tell her to stop smoking pot!

That child IS NOT AT RISK FOR BIRTH DEFECTS
Smoking during pregnancy is not healthy but there is absolutely NO PROOF that marijuana causes birth defects, ONLY that prologed, heavy use can lead to low birth weight and has been linked to learning disabilities. No birth defects.
Don't spread misinformation. |

I agree with the first guest answer.
While there are many factors in determining birth defects, there is no PROOF that a major cause is smoking marijuana or cigarettes for that matter.
Let me explain from EXPERIENCE
I smoked a lot some years ago, both weed and cigs.
I got pregnant at 18 cut back on my smoking, but never quit.
My son weighed 7lbs 11 oz....normal weight, normal delivery and he is as normal as normal gets.
some years later, I was pregnant again, again, I smoked throughout the pregnancy but cut back.... a lot!! my daughter was born at 6lbs 9oz a little lighter, but no complications and not abnormally underweight.
A year later, I was pregnant again. This time I smoked weed and cigarettes without cutting back, as a matter of fact I smoked the whole pregancy as if I wasn't pregnant at all...My son was born and outweighed them BOTH at 9lbs 5oz.
Social stigma will tell you and now me, that it was a horrible thing to do and that I should burn in hell for having picked up a cigarette at all....to them I say...SCREW YOU...My kids are all grown, they are happy, healthy and doing better than most middle american families.
Stop trying to control others and spreading your vicious lies about things you have NO experience in...you silly blind little sheep who only believe what Joe Public tells you to believe.
Check you facts, do your own homework. Learn to think for yourself!!! |
