what is Amiodarone used for?

My wife is bad cardiac patient. She had her heart surgery last month. The procedure passed fine except for some difficulties after. She developed something doctors called "atrial fibrillation". They manage to control this in the hospital and for the home treatment they advised her to take Amiodarone. What is Amiodarone used for?

Amiodaron is in class of drugs called antiarrhythmics. Atrial fibrillation is condition for which Amiodaron can be prescribed. That can be the reason why your wife got this drug for home treatment. In scientific studied was shown that atrial fibrillation is most often arrhythmia after heart surgery. Also, is shown that best medication for such condition is Amiodaron.
