I think that you’re referring to liquid "cocktail" of morphine (or heroin), cocaine, alcohol (and/or other central nervous system depressants), chloroform water, and flavoring that used to be sometimes provided to patients suffering from pain associated with terminal illness. I think that name came from Brompton Hospital where this cocktail was given to such patients. Anyway, such cocktail is not being given anymore…

AS A MATTER OF FACT THE BROMPTONS SOLUTION IS STILL USED TODAY IN SOME HOSPICE, HOSPITAL AND DOCTOR SETTINGS. THERE ARE VARIATIONS WHICH HAVE BEEN UPDATED AND ARE ALTERED FOR EACH PATIENT AND CIRCUMSTANCE. IT IS FAR FROM THE NORM BUT IT IS STILL A VERY USEFUL AND HUMANE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM FOR TERMINAL AND SEVER PAIN MANAGEMENT PATIENTS.....
