what is alfafa

I read in a magazine that some people use a plant alfafa in their salads but the thing is that I have no idea what alfafa is. It has such a funny name and I am interested in learning more about this plant. Thx

I know that this plant was used before as cattle food. It’s latin name is Medicago sativa, so maybe you could get more info about it through this name. It is being harvested as hay and it is said to have the highest feeding value of all common hay crops. Some people use it’s sprouts as a salad ingredient in the States. It’s all I know about!
