Hello! My brother went to see his doctor last week since he had some sort of infection between his legs. The skin was irritated, red and painful. His doctor thought it was a fungal infection and prescribed some gel which made his condition even worse. Then he went to dermatologist and he was told it was a friction burn. What's a friction burn?

Hello! Friction burns are usually caused by contact with any hard surface such as carpets, roads or gym floor surfaces. They are actually a scrape and a heat burn. Friction burns can happen to athletes who fall on floors or courts. Motorcycle or bicycle riders might get friction burns in accidents if they don’t wear protection suit. A friction burn can also happen when skin rub against some hard material and cause friction, resulting in damage of the skin which causes pain. Miss-diagnosis with fungal infections is the major risk in such cases. Friction burns can also happen between the legs of males and it is usually caused by obesity. The treatment consists of the application of a cream containing anti-inflammatory factors (such as cortizol) and taking some pain killers.
