I read somewhere that I shouldn’t be drinking greatfruit juice (I am on birth control pills) and that is mixed badly with some medications. Is this true?

Yes!!!
Many people do not know that. Grapefruit is badly mixed with some medications, mostly connected to treatment for mental health, for example
Prozac, Tegretol, Lipitor, Verapamil, Prednisone …, even Viagra! This applies not only to the psychotropic medications, but also cholesterol -lowering statins and even some antibiotics and birth control pills.
Besides all, grapefruit has long lasting effect, which is called grapefruit effect and it takes place for at least 12 to 24 hours, sometimes even 2 days.
Unlike other citrus fruits grapefruit inhibits 2 enzymes that are important in metabolizing these medications. So, when patient takes this medication and grapefruit, the medication isn’t doing it’s job (because its aim is “broke” by grapefruit) and stays in patients bloodstream. These can cause very dangerous, even toxic effects.
Always read the cautions signs on the medications!!!!
