Hi, I have a terrible problem! The other day I got up early and went to brush my teeth. When I finished, I saw something that really scared me. There were some white patches at the top of my throat. I do not know what to think. Could this be a cancer? I am very scared to go and see a doctor. What can you tell me about the white throat of mine?

Hi, you do not need to worry too much. There are several things that can cause the formation of white patches in the throat. Fortunately most of them are harmless. Usually they will go away with no additional medicine. White patches are actually very common with throat infections. Or, sometimes our immune system attacks the throat since it recognizes it as a threat. It is called autoimmune disease. However, in order to be certain, visit your doctor. You can wait for a couple of days and if the patches do not disappear see a doctor at once. But as I said, do not worry. It is probably nothing. The doctor will examine you, diagnose your condition and prescribe a proper course of treatment.
