| My 12yr.old keeps skipping her periods she hasn't had a period since october this is the longest shes gone without since she started 1yr.ago |

Ask her doctor to test her for polycystic ovarian syndrome. If she has it, the sooner it gets dealt with, the less problems she will have.

she is 12 YEARS OLD. this is COMPLETELY normal!
children will NOT settle into a regular monthly cycle until they are around 16 years old. when they first begin menstruating their cycle WILL be extremely irregular, sometimes going months between cycles. this is natural. it happens to every girl her age.
it is unlikely she has PCOS. although if you wish to take her to a doctors thats fine, they will most likely tell you the same that I have. |

| PCOS is a collection of symptoms...cysts on the ovaries, Irregular periods, obesity, diabeties, patches of discolored skin (usually light brown), etc. You must see your doctor and ask him or her about PCOS, they will require blood tests, pevic ultra sounds and a regular phsyical, be prepaired, it is a LONG and rather uncomfortable process. There is treatment. I have been diagnosed with PCOS in December, my Doctor has me on Metformin to help regulate the body chemicals in hopes to regulate periods, lose weight, and hopefully become pregnant. With a 12 year old girl, it is normal to have scanty periods, a period doesn't normally regulate it's self until around the age of 13 or 14. the body is still going through alot of changes...myself, not going through those until I was 16 years old. PCOS is 20% likely to be heridatory. If you had problems, there is a chance that your daughter might too. I hope this clears a little up for you. |

It is quite normal, especially if she is an athletic girl. the extra strain on the vagina muscles also contributes to missed or shortened periods. ask her doctor if you still want to be sure. |
