PostPosted: 04/26/07 - 14:12    Post subject: Withdrwal is real Vote now! Reply with quote

I have also just begun the long journey to quiting smoking pot, after a long time use getting up to morning, noon and night bowls. I felt that my anxiety was getting out of control and I had lost all ambition, my mind was constantly in a fog and I lost my significant other because of the drug use.. so I am now 36 days clean.

And yes, the withdrawl is VERY REAL... and if it weren ot for the fact that I know my mind has cleared a little and that these symptoms will hopefully getbetter and I will be a new person, I would go back in a heartbeat as the effects are almost ruining me.

I have anxiety, chest pain, depression, I shake all the time. My heart feels like it is bursting sometimes, I cannot sleep and I am tired all the time. My hair is falling out, and my dreams are terrifying. My stomach often cramps, and I have a hard time eating. I gained 10 pounds, I am on antidepressants and Lorazepan, and am now undergoing psychiatric treatment. I am on a medical leave form work because I am unable to focus or stop shaking... and this has been going on now for 5 WEEKS. It is slowly getting better, good days and bad days, but for note, dependingon your body type and the levels of fat in your body, your activity level and your nutritional intake, it can take up to 6 months for all of the drug to be released from your body, and therefore can take that long to be rid of the side effects.

I also thought this must be something beyond withdrawl, as I also thought Marijuana was not such an addicting drug.. but I have done alot of research now that speaks to the contrary. My doctor also said that, much like people all have different emotional reactions, they can also have different withdrawal symptoms. Anyone with a predisposition to anxiety, for example, can have it be extremely hightened during the withdrawal period.

Please, for those people out there who did not experience withdrawal, do not discredit other people for their symptoms. The physical manifestations are very real, and very painful.

As my handle implies, I am quite knowledgeable with regards to nearly every aspect of marijuana, both smoking and expertly cultivating it.

That said, I have smoked it every day for both medicinal and recreational purposes for over 25 years. I smoked roughly a quarter a day.

Six days ago, I stopped completely. I did not taper off slowly, I just quit because I wanted to. Obviously, I was concerned over possible withdrawal symptoms. Here's what to expect:

I experienced mild restlessness and irritability the first day after I quit.

The second day all I noticed was that, since I had been a heavy, daily smoker for many years, I instinctively found myself reaching for my pipe or bong. I did not take a hit, I just set them back down and went on with my day. My body didn't 'need' it, I was just used to the ritual of smoking all of the time, so I just boxed up my smoking devices and put them where I didn't see them all the time.

The third day on up till now, I've had no 'cravings' and only noticed that I have more 'mental' energy, but my body seems to want to sleep more than I used to. This is most likely due to the fact that cannabis (THC)stays in a person's fat cells for some time after ceasing to use it, especially in one who was a heavy smoker like me. My sleep is now much more restful, even though I have for years insisted, with others that pot made sleep better. Cannabis makes you lazy and you lose motivation to do pretty much anything. I am looking to find a new pain management program now, so I take Ibuprofen (Advil) and while it's not nearly as effective as smoking pot, my mind is MUCH clearer and I feel like I've just woke up from a 25 year long cloud. My brother came over this morning and lit one up in my living room and offered me a toke. I politely declined with no problem, although I'd be lying if I told you I didn't think twice before saying 'no'. That made me feel very good about myself.

I am still of the mindset that it is a personal choice, not one to be mandated by any government.

If you want to smoke it, go ahead. If you want to stop smoking it, go ahead and try it, see how you feel after thirty days or so. If you're considering trying it for the first time, simply remember that you will be introducing your brain to something that may or may not cause you problems you didn't have before. If you have an addictive personality like myself, leave it alone and you may just get 25 years of pot-free life, where you can do little things like, well remember stuff... If you can toke recreationally with no probs, more power to you.

Will I smoke again in the future...? I don't know, but it's my choice.

I will say, in closing, that while many pro-cannabis people deny that marijuana is a gateway drug, ask any heroin, cocaine, or other hard drug addict if they started out their addictions by first sticking a needle into their veins. They didn't. They tried pot first 99% of the time.

Conversely, marijuana beats alcohol any day. I've yet to hear of someone smoking a joint and then going out to find a fight. They usually hunt down a couch instead.

Best of luck to all, and if you pray, pray to God as you know Him/Her. If you don't pray, well don't, but I'd highly recommend you try it at least once (praying). It's been proven to be beneficial even if you don't believe there is a God.

You can tell everyone you heard all of this from one of the biggest ex-pothead/grower that ever lived on this green (lol) earth.

Peace.

I agree with Phd. The biggest problem in stopping smoking was, for me, breaking the daily procedure of preparing to smoke. It had been an integral part of my life for several years. However, once I moved out of school and my daily schedule changed, my perceived need for pot changed as well.

While I was in school, I was smoking daily almost every night of the semester. When I came home for breaks, etc, I never had a problem with physical withdrawals. I was probably more anxious and irritable for a week or so, but those symptoms quickly went away.

I will still occasionally smoke at parties, for example, if it is offered to me. Other than an occasional toke here and there, however, I never smoke. Smoking only in social situations, such as parties, makes the risk of addiction much less serious. It is when smoking becomes part of your daily schedule that the problem comes.

In conclusion, while I was smoking every day I could not conceieve of the day when I would graduate from school and have to quit. Once I am there, however, it is not so bad. For those of you who want to stop smoking, try exercise. Get out and run a few laps at night, instead of toking up. You will get a natural "high" afterward; a natural feeling of well being, and you will probably sleep better at night now that you are not smoking pot.

Weed is not physically addictive and there should not be symptoms of withdrawal. You should talk about that to your friend. It is just a habit, even less addictive that smoking cigarettes. There can not be that noticeable symptoms. One can be nervous, can sweat more, but only because of nervousness, not because his body needs weed. That’s nonsense by which persons are used to delay getting off the weed.

It is VERY addictive! i am addicted, and when i got caught, i had to stop for a while, and i had nervousness, diharreha, and bursts of anger for no reason. the second i smoked a bowl, all of these symptoms stopped.

I am not a weed smoker, but I live with one! My partner is fine all of the time he has weed, but as soon as it runs out he is a different person. He becomes irritable, argumentative and depressive and suffers with sleep deprivation. It is not a pretty sight. If this isn't addiction, I don't know what is.

ok, i haven't been smoking for long, a few years, but over those years i've had times when i didn't smoke for weeks, well, i was trying to get a job, and times when i would do nothing but smoke, it depended on how much i had, lol, but anyway, i never noticed any effects but the ones that one experiences while smoking, there are no withdrawal symptoms, if you feel something after not smoking for any time, its in ure head, people are psychologically affected by everything they do, those psychological effects are all based on ure personality, if you have an addictive personality by nature, like me, only not for pot strangly, then it seems more difficult to quit any habit, i find it impossible to stop biting my nails, i find it impossible to stop doing little things i've done all my life, why? cause i'm used to them, when u get used to something psychologically, an addiction occurs, it is nowhere near physical in that respect, yes, alot of things are physically addictive, but for those things that arent, we believe that we still need them, but its all in our heads, the easiest, or should i say the hardest, thing to do is tell ureself u don't need it, now i'm not saying that this is true for all addictions, i'm just saying that marijuana is a psychological addiction, one thinks they need to do it, just as they think they need to bite their nails, or just as they think they need to watch tv every day, or like they think they need to act a certain way, and if this makes sense to any of you, i praise you, cause ure one of the very few that can understand me, lol, so, in conclusion, stop bitching and start thinking, we cannot solve your problems, we can only help u to figure out how to solve them, and you need to figure out what your problems are to begin with, not what happens because of your problems, look at ureself and find out who you are.

P.S. WEED IF *** GREAT!

Allright I've read enough of these ppl's ridiculous replys its time for my own, I cant resist starting with the person who compared humans smoking/quitting weed to rats. i mean @.@ r u insane we r nothing alike were completely different spefcies we will obviously not react the same way as rats would. The next fact is weed is NOT only physically addictive but also mentally addictive to some. What you ppl dont understand is we are all different every one of us is different in some way shape or form so we will all have different reactions to weed and different symptoms when trying to quit. Me personally when i quit for a few days i dream alot more and have a much more resless sleep i also tend to get really hot and sweat just a little. Where as some ppl will have no symptoms when quitting. Youll all just have to test it out if u are trying to quit and decide what is better for you quitting or does weed actually make u happier and a more efficient person. YOU be the judge.
it ent phsically addictive i smoked it since i was bout 12 n i quit it straight away wen i found out i was pregnant n i didnt have any withdrawals it all in ur head if anything its better now im not smokin cuz i ent paranoid all da time now!
This depends, some people will experience withdrawals some people will not. IT IS NOT IN PEOPLE'S HEAD, it's a fact that it can be physically addictive to some people, like myself. Depression, lack of sleep, lost of appetite, anxiety attacks, headaches, stomach aches....Some people can stop cold turkey some just cannot.

Telling people that it is in their head is quite infantile, because how do you know this? You're a psychic? Pain and discomfort cannot be discussed because it cannot be measured, same with this.

Well I have read what everyone has said, and it has been helpful. I do now understand why I have been so hot and sweating when I am normally cold. The thing I don't know how to fix is my inability to sleep when I am not smoking. Granted I have only quit for 24 hours, but the not sleeping is driving me crazy. I may as well be smoking crack. Surprised

If anyone has any ideas on how to sleep or how long this will last, I would greatly appreciate. It is 1:30 in the morning, and I have been laying there for 5 hours unable to sleep.

I too agree that smoking weed is AWESOME, but when you live in a small town like I do you can't find many people that you can trust to get it from. Quite frankly I am only quitting because I am sick of dealing with people trying to get some. It is too stressful and it makes me TOO ANGRY.

Maybe I should say screw it and get BLAZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
