fibroma on my right ovary

I am a 41 year old woman with a fibroma on my right ovary. My ob/gyn has referred me to a gynecologic oncologist, but believes that I need to have both the fibroma and the ovary removed. I don't want the ovary removed, if at all possible. Does anyone have any experience in this?
