Girlfriend bleeding after sex, pregnant??

after my girlfriend and i had sex she started bleeding. she thought she had started her period, but the next day it was gone. she took 2 pregnancy tests and they came back negative. I used a condom, but could she be pregnant? she hasn't had sex in over a year. could this be a reason?
