Totally agree!! I thought it was just me?! This made me feel so much better

I have spent the last week apologizing to my long time boyfriend about the last "incident" we shared that will be forever remembered as that time we "made a mess." He and I agreed the mirena was a good idea and now, I am not so sure. I have now experience swollen lymph nodes in my groin to add to the already uncomfortable discharge that I can't help but notice. I went to see a physician yesterday and was told to wait it out and that there was no pathology to treat, so I would just have to wait out the pain and discomfort. I have only had my Mirena for 4 weeks and hope it is not a choice I soon regret. I would like to have intimacy, again, one day in the near future, without feeling unclean. For now, he and I will wait. I am thankful for this posting, since, after reading a number of symptoms close to mine, I thought I may have some sort of STI. I question I hadn't dare posed to my monogamous lover; I thought perhaps it may be unwarranted given the new foreign body in my uterus. Here's to hoping my body soon accepts the Mirena.
Fingers crossed.

Wow!!! I feel so much less insane now! I have had Mirena for 4 1/2 years...for about the last year i have had yeast infections back to back. It is miserable. I went to the doctor and he gave me 5 rounds of diflucan and everything was ok until I ran out and then it was right back to misery. The only thing I even like about Mirena at all is the fact that I don't have to remember it....like the pill. I do not, however feel like that it is at all healthly. Mostly because this much yeast in a persons body is not good at all!!!! I mean it's like I almost get no relief from the itching and swelling and burning! I have no insurance so I can't just run to the doctor when I need to. I have a whitish yellow discharge that is clumpy...I know that is yeast, but sometimes I have a yellowish green discharge that is very stringy like snot...im not sure what that is, but it is very annoying too. I know for sure I need to figure out a diffent bc method. Does anyone have any suggestions?whi

I had Mirena inserted after I had my first child 6 yrs ago. I never had any problems, no yeast infections, no BV, no cramping...so I thought it'd be a good idea to replace it, seeing as it was obviously the perfect birth control for me. I had a new one inserted on July 15, 2010 and the pain was almost unbearable. I didn't bleed long but the cramps were ridiculous. At the beginning of September I noticed a discharge and smell so I made a doc appointment immediately and found out I had BV. I took the antiobiotic which cleared it up but now, 2 weeks after I finished the medicine, the smell is back and I have BV AGAIN. I too am a very clean person and am completely embarrassed and frustrated by this whole situation. I don't understand how I could have no problems with the first Mirena but then have all these problems now.

One of my friends (who is not on Mirena) used to get BV often and she said fragranced tampons would cause her to get BV. I am going to stop using them but if I get BV one more time I'm going to have my Mirena removed, unfortunately. I hope the tampons were what was causing the problem because I do NOT want to have to rely on the pill, ughhh!

FYI-I read the warning label posted on Mirena's website and it says that IUD insertion may be associated with the introduction of vaginal bacteria into the uterus. I'm no doctor but to me that sounds like Mirena can cause BV when inserted. Anyway, I am very relieved to know I'm not the only one having this problem.

I've had the Mirena since July of 2007...I just asked my DR. about these same symptoms yesterday. She told me that it's possible for an infection to attach to the copper T IUD, but not the Mirena. I've never had a UTI until I got the Mirena put in...I started out getting one every 3 months and then they got closer and closer and now it's like it's just part of my every day life. I use AZO to calm the irritation on a daily basis.

I have had no problem with painful periods or cramping, but I have serious bloating/weight gain in my abdomen only (making me look about 6 months pregnant) and I wasn't this big after giving birth to my 3rd child 3 yrs ago. Again, my DR said it's not from the Mirena, that many things can cause weight gain such as poor sleeping, stress and bad eating habits (I watch what I eat, and barely take in 1200 calories a day). Exercise has no effect on the area. And why would I just gain weight in one specific area only? I'm small framed anyway and it's embarrasing going out in public looking like I'm pregnant when I'm NOT.

Other symptoms include feeling sluggish, constepation and depression. Again, never felt this way prior to the Mirena.

Ladies - I have read many of your stories and feel your pain!! I had the mirena removed a month ago and it was the best decision I have made in a long time!! I too experienced many bacterial vaginosis infections and then consequently yeast infections. At first I really liked the lighter periods. I have endometriosis so my doctor and I thought this would be a great answer. HA! I too feel that I am a very clean person and there is nothing more embarrassing that smelling foul. I got so paranoid that I felt like everyone around me could smell it too. My periods then started to become irregular. I always had a period with the mirena - I had it for 1 1/2 years - but I had a period that lastest 3 weeks! Then I had nothing for 2 months. Then I started a period and it had lasted 2 weeks so far. Finally I decided that I was through with the suffering I was going through and decided to have it removed. I have done some research on the web about this product. It appears there are a lot more side effects than just BV. Hair loss, weight gain, joint aches, back pain, acne, just to name a few. Does this sound familiar to anyone? So NO YOU ARE NOT CRAZY OR SKANKY!!! I just had a friend who got hers 6 months ago get hers removed today - after nonstop bleeding and her 3rd yeast infection. I hope to find a way to get this information to the public. I am sure it may work for some women but I feel for those of us who had such problems. Best of luck to you all and remember that YOU know your body best so when you have a gut feeling about something being wrong do not ignore it!!

ive had the Mirena for exactly 2mnts, ive had nothing but BV and yeast problems, all IUD's cause this problem, and it actully doesnt go away after removal, because i had the Paragard put in, it was March of this year, i had that in for one mnt and had it removed and ever since then ive had BV. Its BS ladies....ive never had BV or a yeast infection in my life and i am 26yrs old. Dr said that once the Vaginal flora is messed up, it takes a longgggg time for it to go back in working order. so sad. and depressing. and i hate the Mirena by the way it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, I have had the IUD since 2006 and I started dealing with BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) and Yeast Infection since last February, this is the first time, I have ever had this problem.. Since then I have been given several different types of creams, gels, pills and nothing has ever changed, the GYN told me it could be due to the Mirena and if the problem persists that would have to be removed, the problem has not changed and the IUD is not gone yet!!

My next appointment will be this coming Friday and I will remove with o without the Doctor's authorization! =(

I have been surfing arounf for the past hour trying to find out what was wrong with me. I have had Mirena for the past 7 months and only within the past 3 months did I start to notice that every single time I have intercourse there is bleeding for 3-5 days, cramping, and an excess of discharge after that as well with a very distinct odor but it's not fishy. I have been so embarrassed about this and haven't known if it was just me or not. I have been considering having Mirena taken out and now after doing more research, I know what to do. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one, however, I'm not happy about the fact that I need to get checked out and make sure I don't have BV.

I am so glad that i have found other people that has been driving themselves tryin to figure out why would a clean person who only has one partner keep getting these bacterial infections. I have been to the doctor may times and each time they say it is not the IUD that is causing this. I have had the IUD since feb. 2008 and i have been suffering every since. I know for a fact that this thing has to come out of me but i hate it because it is the easiest birth control to manage.

I am relieved actually, to find out that I"m not the only person with this awful problem. I had the IUD put in about 3 months after giving birth and within two months had my first BV infection. I had never had a BV or yeast infection in my life (I'm 39). Since the first one, I can't even count how many times I've had that awful smell and discomfort since. It's made my sex life practically null. I also have periods about every 3 weeks, so that doesn't help. Since I was nursing I couldn't use the antibiotics and used the gel which worked, for about 3 weeks, then it came back. I finally started using a tea tree and boric acid suppository and that worked just as well, but it came back after about a week, but it costs about half and I didn't have to get a prescription or pay for another doctor visit. I sometimes have to shower twice a day just to clear up the nasy odor. It's embarassing. My gyn also said it wasn't from the IUD, but I'm starting to believe she is wrong, especially after seeing all of these posts claiming the same issue. Just this week I started having severe 'stop me in my tracks' flank pain and I think I might have an infection related to the IUD. HAs anyone else had this? I had a CT scan today and will find out if it's a kidney stone or something else. I don't have fever, bloody urine or any other kidney or UTI symptoms that might otherwise explain this pain. I really don't want to get pregnant again, and I thought the IUD was such a great, easy, and safe BC method. I'm so disappointed this is not the case.

I don't claim to be a doctor. You know your own bodies and can try this at your own risk.
I was sick of paying for a $500+ doctor visit to get some cream or antibiotic that would last 2-3 weeks. All doctors I've been to claim there's no link between mirena and BV. 1) i never had BV until 2 months after I got the mirena. 2) look how many people are on this site alone that claim mirena did this. Mirena needs to add 'you have a 90% chance of getting BV every month' to the list of side effects.
I hated taking so many antibiotics, not only is it horrible for your immune system, but I got the mirena so I wouldn't have to take a pill everyday.
I researched natural alternatives and found a lot. A few recurring ones stood out, yet I was still kind of apprehensive. There was a really promising link, clicked it... $19.95 for the book. I don't want to wait 2 weeks to get a 200 page book probably telling me to do the c**p that's already online for free, or tell me I have to order a specific brand of pills and creams from their site for $200 a month or something. Plus, it's not really something I want to curl up next to the fire with. Take an applicator and insert plain yogurt (must have live bacterias) into your vagina before bedtime. If you dont have an applicator you can rig one with a plastic tampon applicator. Some people claim you can soak the tampon in the yogurt, but tampons upset the balance of your vagina, so it doesn't make sense. Wear a pad while you sleep. In the morning I douche with 3 parts distilled water 1 part apple cider vinegar. The 1st day I put more yogurt in after I douched. Kept it in and applied more at night. MY SYMPTOMS ARE ALMOST GONE!!!! It's been 3 days. A lot of people claim you need to do it for 7 days even if the symptoms go away. some people swear by peroxide douches. I tried it, had some results, but not great. I think the douche kills all the bacteria, and the yogurt helps replace the good bacterias.
If a site gives you a cure but is pushing certain brands, it's probably not good. Look for cures that don't require you to mass order expensive products. Some people claim rephresh, folic acid, borax douches, and other various pills work. Haven't tried them yet.
(21, had mirena for 7 months. BV for 5 months.)
