Glad to find this forum, as I just stopped taking the pill after being on it 6 years. I started at the age of 17 and found that it helped with my depression. Since I stopped taking it, I have been extremely dizzy and lightheaded, and also slightly lethargic. I'm noticing some mood swings as well. Is it better to get back on the pill or ride it out? I'm not trying to get pregnant, I just wanted to no longer rely on the pill in order to live more naturally.
I recently stopped taking the pill, after taking it for 14 years. I have noticed headaches, dizziness, anxiety, and depression. When I was taking the pill I did have really bad episodes of depression at least once a month, and my sex drive was pretty non-existent. I just hope that those things will turn around for the good soon! I really don't understand why I am getting such bad headaches, dizziness, and anxiety right now though. Does anyone have any suggestions why this is happening?
I was so happy to find this website. I too was on the pill for 9 years and stopped taking them about 2 weeks ago. I have been dizzy, having headaches, nausea and not sleeping well at night. Everyone I ask in the health care field doesnt think it has anything to do with coming off the pill, but I have to believe when my body was used to a chemical in it for 9 years...to suddenly stop it has some negative effects! I am happy to know that I am not the only one out there who is experiencing adverse reactions to going off the pill...who would have ever thought such a crazy thing?? I thought when I stopped I would suddenly feel so much better, but maybe with a little time we all will! Best wishes to everyone...feel well soon!
The bloat is horrible! I've been off for only 2 weeks and I have gained 5 pounds which is no doubt water weight. I look exactly like I did when I was pregnant 9 years ago. My stomach is distended as if I were pregnant now (which I assure you I'm not) and my fingers/toes/legs are all swollen. I feel miserable. I'm also very crabby and moody as if I were VERY ppre-menstrual. Anybody else look newly pregnant? Do I have to look and feel like this for months while my body "adjusts?" Help!
I have been off the pill for about 10 weeks now. I went off because I was having horrible symptoms, like extreme fatigue, headaches, hair loss, heart palpitations, etc, and my doctor suspected the pill was the cause. I have been getting better and better, but from all the research I've done it looks like it's a big waiting game. Your body will naturally begin to function properly again, but it takes a lot of time and there is not much you can do. I've been told it could take 6 months to a year to fully recover. I now have days where I feel pretty good, but during times that my estrogen levels are low (levles start falling after ovulation and don't pick up again until after your period) I feel terrible again. It speeds recovery by eating well and exercising, but all I am capable of now is a short walk. I was also told to make sure to get enough calcium since low estrogen leads to osteoperosis.
I have been taking birth control pills for 13 years, 9 years continuously. I just recently stopped taking them 2-3 weeks ago, and have also been experiencing dizzy spells off and on every day, sometimes accompanied by slight nausea. I am also wondering if this is a normal side effect of going off the pill after being on it for so long; it is really miserable. I am tempted to go back on, but will probably just tough it out; I have had terrible headaches for years, my blood pressure has increased, and my sex drive has significantly diminished, and from everything I have read, I am really hoping that going off the pill will improve these issues. I have not experienced any mood disturbances since stopping the pill, but I have not been off them very long.
I have been trying to find answers for my constant dizziness and frequent headaches and I noticed someone here has experienced dizziness after stopping the pill. I stopped the pill around the time this started (4 weeks ago) but didn't think it was related b/c this began with a one-time strong vertigo episode, just lying down, waking and opening eyes. Since then I have been light-headed and fuzzy with waves of stronger dizziness. The worst part is I can't sleep b/c it's worse when I lay down. MRI normal as well as some blood work. I was on birth control for about 15 years (off and on for 3 pregnancies). Could this severe dizziness and back of head pain/pressure really be from stopping the pill??!!
Hi. I just stopped taking oral contraceptives two weeks ago after being on it for three years. Today I started having menstrual type cramping like I used to have before I started the pills. However, I haven't started my period. I have never had cramping like this before without a period. I also have had several loose/soft stools, and I noticed a very small amount of moucusy blood in the stool. Has anyone expereinced anything like this after coming off of the pill? I think my body is just really confused right now!
Hello everyone,
I'm so glad to read everyone's comments on having depression after coming off the pill. I have been taking Yasmin for 3 years, and stopped taking it the last 2 weeks. I feel so depressed, and feel like I want to cry all the time! After reading the comments, I'm afraid this is going to last a long time. I wish that I would've known this before ever taking it. I want to get pregnant, but I'm afraid my emotions will be too crazy now.

I'm so glad i'm not alone. These past two weeks have been awful. I was on BC for about 8 years. Recently I stopped taking it because it was causing me to have an inflamed cervix and I would spot in between periods and bleed during sex. I've been so moody, anxious and depressed since stopping. I thought I was losing my mind! But hopefully things get better and it's just my hormones adjusting. I was told it can take a few months. Good luck to everyone else experiencing this!
I stopped the pill about 5 weeks ago after being on it for 12 years. I can honestly say I have never felt this off and 'spaced out' in all my life. I am so dizzy, to the point where I find it hard focusing, I also am getting anxiety attacks to the point where I feel like I am going to pass out. Its terrifying, especially when I am driving, I am too scared to drive anywhere now.
I want to know when this will all start going away, I dont know how much longer I can go on like this!

I have just read a number of responses to the original question. I had been on the pill for 13 years. Last october i took myself off the pill. I have been experiencing anxiety attacks, dizziness, and terrible fatigue that almost feels like it sucks the life out of me during my period. While i was on the pill i never experienced this at all. I have been having a difficult time mostly with my fatigue. It's now been a year since I went off the pill and I am still suffering these symptoms. Have had lots of other tests and there is nothing wrong with me. This forum has been very helpful.
hi, i have been a user of bc pills for 5 months but have stopped taking them 3 wks ago due to rare but annoying bouts of anxiety and a few mild- what felt like -"panic attacks. i just felt that if the body doesn't naturally acquire so much of these horomones there has to be something unhealthy about taking them. i am now learning this lessson the hard way but im glad, at least. soon after i stopped b/c i got more severe anxiety.
lately i have been experiencing various symptoms of the condition at different times. they come and go and vary in intensity.
at first it was mostly worry accompanied by occasional heart palpitations, shortness of breath and a persistent "on edge" or tense feeling. now, it seems that these breathing and racey heart sensations have stopped (thankgoodness!) but instead i have found that my legs occasionally feel weak and one of my knees sometimes gets a stiff feeling in the joint. i have read that muscle tension and pain is a symptom of anxiety..should i worry? it tends to happen most frequently in that one leg..not a one time fleeting ache like in the other joints... in addition, i still get shakey now and then and my body feels twitchy..and there's worry about health problems constantly.
i know many people have anxiety after stopping the pill, as do i, and that's probably why im so worried as i type, but i would like some specification as to what symptoms those who also said they experience bc anxiety experienced. anxiety has a broad amount of symptoms and effects....anyone else feeling weak joint, muscle pains along with the icky worry and restlessness and tension?
