Hi everyone, I had my thyroid removed May 2014. I was overactive, after taking a  P.T.U. (thyroid blocker) for over a yr. They removed it, surgery went great. Didn't have to take pain meds, no trouble eating. I was weak for about a week but that it. My advice is to research all surgeon find one whom is known for thyroid removal . My scar looks great not noticeable at all. Started taking thyroid meds about 2 weeklater still trying to get my levels just right.  Which can take some working with the doctor and make sure you have you blood test and keep your doctor up on how you are feeling, only you know your body!  I can't stress enough do your research, on doctors and symptoms. If will make things so much better in the long run.

I had my near total thyroidectomy 3 months ago, I started  on 50 mcg levothyroxine  a month after surgery. On the 2nd month, i started getting mouth sores, other mouth discomforts and some glands inflammation. there is also slight swelling on top of my incision, hopefully just internal scar tissue. I started feeling paranoid and stressed along with all the other signs, fatigue, brain fog, etc. I wonder if these oral manifestations are really part of hypothyroidism. I had my TSH and FT4 tested. TSH was so off at 47.2  and FT4 was low at 0.481.  FT3 was low too 0.942.   Endo increased my Levothyroxine dosage from 50 to 150 mcg. (100 in the morning and 50 before dinner). I hope increase in dosage is not drastic. I am on my fist week of new dose.  I hope all these discomforts go away SOON. I would appreciate any advice/feedback. Thank you.

I don't blame you. Just got back from my doctor and she said I may need to have my thyroid out. Small nodule has been growing for 6 years. News to me. Don't want the surgery. Side Effects sounds pretty difficult. Good to hear from others with same problem

Try to see an herbalist or functional medicine physician to remedy your thyroid problems first. I regret very much that I had to have my thyroid removed.

Hi there, I just had a total thyroidectomy & central neck dissection Dec 15th. I was in critical care overnight to monitor calcium levels and ensure no problems breathing and no bleeding. Then spent two nights in normal hospital wards. I'm home now. Orginally diagnosed with Hashimoto about 8 yrs ago. I was already on 100microgram thyroxin. Weight fluctuates, still tired a lot, memory can be a bit poop even with thyroxin. But I work a lot, am a manger and I couldn't say whether I'm tired from my disease or from work. I would get ultrasounds on my thyroid once a year and blood tests twice a year to check levels. I have had a 10cm goitor wrapped around my throat for years, not visible luckily, and numerous nodules have grown. On the last ultra sound done in oct, one nodule was seen with blood flow. So I got referred for a fine needle biopsy (which hurt like a mother f...) and nuclear scan. Then the results came back cancerous nodule. Referred to specialist. He wanted to remove half thyroid and then biopsy and assess whether the other half needed to be removed. O told him to take it all.in one surgery, it dodnt work anyway, and all nodules would be removed just in case. He agreed. I was already on thyroxin. So I had the surgery two weeks later. Pathology reports came back.the there was only one nodule cancerous, the one they initially biosied. It was new and 15mm. The other 14 nodules were not cancerous. Im on giant horse size calcium tabs 3 times a day 2 tabs, and a more potent little red calcium tab twice a day. At this stage the removal of a sticky tape on my inner arm was more painful than any part of the surgery or post-surgery. Im only on panadoal now for pain whenever I need it. Usually taking it same time as calcium as the nurse told me to nip pain at a 3 or 4 rate because if pain gets too high it takes too long to correct. Im a little dizzy every now and then, woke up feeling hungover yesterday, but I'm alive. The thought of my neck getting sliced open was freaking me out and I hardly slept the week before surgery. The specialiat told me I shouldn't have any more trouble with this thyroid/cancer. Follow up appointment this Tues. Might still have some iodised radiation drink in a month to be extra extra sure all thyoid/cancer gone. But it might not be necessary. I have a wound on my neck that will eventually be a faded scar to remind me to enjoy life and hug my loved ones. I'm now cancer free. Merry Christmas.

'Normal'. Is there anyone normal? No one sleeps well 100%, anyone 'normal' would still get mood swings. Everyone has their own individual body/machine that has problems. At least we all know ours. Sitting on bed, beads of sweat on nose (which may be post-surgery or maybe because it's hot today), and I'm glad I had my 'nip and tuck' because I don't have to worry about other nodules becoming cancerous now. They got evicted.

I had central neck dissection done with my thyroidectomy. Apparently cancer likes the grow in the fatty tissues. It's the one surgery, so make sure they cover that too.

I had surgery to remove my Thyroid, due to a doctor telling me I had cancer. After the surgery, I found out IDID NOT HAVE CANCER! That was April 2011. My life from that point has been lifeless. I'm to tired to do the laundry. I am so depressed. I have been taken to a "hospital" 5 times for my own protection. I walk around with my life in a fog. My hair is falling out everwhere. I gained 15 LBs. I can not carry this much more because of I have a disability. I got shot in the back and still have the bullet in my spinal cord. That was when I was 15 years old. I have had 33 surgeries. But, this has been too much for me. I have searched the web, doctors, Etc. Nothing has helped me. I NEED HELP
