sebium, odor?

I am pretty sure the odor that came out of an ingrown hair/pimple was sebium. But, I have at this ingrown hair/pimple for a long time now like a few years on my chest. Not big, cant even see it. But when popped an odor comes out as usual. Is this bad? What do I need to do?
