Is it safe to use Plan B contraceptive while on the pill?

Ok.. I already get that it's best to wait at LEAST 7 days after you start birth control pills to have sex. So my question is...if you can't wait for 7 days.. and have sex anyway, is it safe to use plan b contraceptive (morning after pill)? And if so, will it work the same way?
