How painfull is hand fracture?

Hi. I broke my finger yesterday and I've never felt pain that bad from anything else before. I'm trying to move it a little bit, but it hurts like crazy. Is that normal? Do I need to inform doctor about this or it will heal without medical intervention. Thank you in advance.
