missed 4 periods and not pregant

i have so far missed 4 periods no bleeding what so ever. ive been gooing back and forth to the dr and just resently they found that my hormone levels were too high so i had an ultrasound done and the tech told me she saw lots of ovarian cysts could this be a reason why?
