umbilical hernia surgery complication, one side of stomach is harder than the other side

My Mum had an umblical surgery  two days ago and one side of her stomach is harder than the other side.Is it a normal? The stomach is swollen but i do not know if its being hard is a problem.

I had my period on the 4th of January (a week late). It started off for the first two days with light/spotting then light. Not enough to fill a pad for two days before going back to the spotting for two days... My boobs were itching and sore (which I never have) and my nipples have been hurting...
