Upper portion of stomach(birth canal)hard as a rock!

I am in my fifties and had 5 children. My upper portion of my stomach is hard. I was told by my last doctor it was my birth canal. It gets really hard when I start my period. Is this normal? Can I loose this? It makes me looks pregnant!
