voltaren for severe pain?

I have been to the gym yesterday. I had tried to lift more weight then I should, at least I know that now. I have strain my muscle. It hurts very much. I am planning to go to the doctor but I am wondering in the meantime can I use voltaren for severe pains? My mother has it.
