When I urinate it looks like there is blood (red) in my urine. My gyn said it was a part of my uterus growing back so I am having a period. It feels like the blood is coming out of my urethra. Is that possible?

I have pain in my lower abdomen when i go to pass water. I have to start and then stop. I also have swelling in the groin area. The doctor (urologist) said I have an absecess just before or close to the uretha and he has recommended surgery. I have a daughter 7 months old.
