2nd toe on right foot

The 2nd toe on my right foot is longer than any other one. It has a very hard and bulky nail and hurts after I play tennis or wear some types of shoes. What is the procedure to remove a bone in that toe? Is that the best thing to do for this case? What would you suggest? Thanks
