Could it be hypertrophic periostitis?

My son was having leg pain with bowling...tests were all neg...bone scan showed uptake in that leg, also minimal uptake in various other bones. They question hypertrophic periostitis, I am having difficulty finding info on the web. (I am a nurse) Thanks
