Red lump on vaginal hood/pubic area.

I have recently found a lump on my outer vagina, about the size of a minstrel, and everytime I touch it the slightest bit, it causes me pain. I am not sexually active, still a virgin, and I have no idea what this lump is. Should I go to the doctors or just apply some cream and see what happens?
