Hello, guys. I have multiple sclerosis for some time. My doctor suggests me to start taking Tysabri. He says it has shown good results, but I hear it also has dangerous side effects. That is why I am reluctant to start with it, not knowing what affects it will give me. What is your experience? Thanks.

Hi. You should think very thoroughly before making a decision. Tysabri indeed showed some good results. It reduces relapses (exacerbations) and slows the progression of physical disability. However, it removes all dangerous antibodies into the brain and spinal cord. It weakens one’s immune system. Its most dangerous complication is progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. It usually appears when one combines Tysabri with tother immunosuppressive drugs, but it can appear with people who use only Tysabri. And PML can even be a lethal complication. Your neurologist should point out all these possible complications. I hope I’ve helped.
