Interaction between Xanax and MS Contin

I take 1 bar of xanax a day and was prescribed ms contin cr 30mg 2x a day for severe back pain. Is it ok to combine the two. 1 Contin at 10am morning, 1 xanax in evening, and 1 Contin at 10pm.  Thank you
