cholesterol and blockages

I have problems with cholesterol. On my last check my doctor warned me about possible cholesterol blockages in blood vessels and possible stroke. He said I have to take it seriously…that scared me I admit. Anyway I was recommended to try with exercising. Is this going to do any good?
