Sitz bath for hematoma?

During labor with our second child my wife got labial hematoma. That’s happened two weeks ago and my wife is still in pain. That hematoma looks really horrific. Doctor recommended to her sitz bath. Does anybody know something more about that sitz bath for hematoma? What it is actually? Thanks!

Potassium is running high.
