Mucus filling my eye, barely able to open eyes in the morning!

I have a serius eye problem and I have scheduled a medical examination for tomorrow but I need some info right away. Some sort of mucus is constantly filling my eye and I am barely able to open them in the morning. It is not that hard during a day, but the mornings are awful. What could this be?
