Spotting a week before period & bad cramps

My period is due in five days, ive been spotting for the past week it started out just a light pink color, then it was a blood color, now its brown... I also have bad stomach cramps. I had unprotected sex sunday, but i had been spotting lightly for two days before then. What would cause this?
