my wife has PCOS she has been bleeding for over an year she has gone to multiple docs and tried various medications....but, nothing seem to be working........is it safe to go for progestrone pills? will it take care of her condition?

3 week period

My periods have been regular up until this month which has been going on 3 weeks and still hasn't quit. I did go off the pill 5 months ago but why would my period start being irregular now? I am 35 and a smoker so I can't use the pill to regulate it. What is wrong with me?
