marathon training advice needed for older runners

Answered by a doctor

I'm 71 and due to run my first marathon in April. I run quite slowly and have been managing just under 12 minute miles on my long runs. I have allowed 24 days between my longest scheduled training run and Marathon day itself. If I attempt 22 miles for my longest run it will take me well over 4 hrs...

Running 2.4km in under 11 minutes

Answered by a doctor

First off Hi all! Recently got back into running properly after a 4 year gap and have unsurprisingly discovered I have turned into a tub of lard. Anyhow I was hoping some of the fitter/better/best looking/fastest/sexiest etc runners on here might be able to help with suggestions for the amount of...

Running and a metallic taste in my mouth

Answered by a doctor

I ran a mile today as fast as I could and when I was done my chest hurt really bad, I had a very strong metallic taste in my mouth, and my throat swelled making it hard for me to breath. Is this something I should worry about? I don't run very often, but am in decent shape. Any input...

How do i start running effectively?

Answered by a doctor

I'm new here, also new to running. I have been kidding myself, thought that I could lose the 90 lbs that I gained during my pregnancy. Well, I did lose 60, but gained back 20. I also realize that I cannot starve the fat away, so I decided to start power-walking. The power-walking is great,...

Morning Running NOT to Burn Fat

Answered by a doctor

Hello, I'm thinking of starting running in the mornings, but not to burn fat, as I'm really skinny (~180 cm. and 62 kg.), but to increase endurance, strengthen legs. Is it a good idea? If it is, how many times a week I should do it? Thanks in advance.

Pain on outside edge of left foot, what is causing it?

Hi everyone, I've been running for about a year. I usually do 3-4 miles first thing in the morning. Over the past few weeks I started to get a pain on the outside of my left foot, not across from the arch, but right beneath my smallest toe. It definitely feels like I'm running on the bone...

Shin splints/aches in one leg only?

Hi all, hope this is in the right place. I'm desperate for advice at this point... First off, I fully believe what I'm experiencing in my lower right (and a bit outside) shin is a shin splint, though they feel practically fine an hour after running so perhaps I'm wrong? Quick profile: - I'm a...

Is this a good routine to increase running speed+endurance?

Answered by a doctor

I'm currently trying to increase my running speed and endurance. I currently have an 8 minute mile (on a good day.) My major goals are to achieve a 6 to 6.30 minute mile, 12-13 minute 2 mile, a 19-20 minute 3 mile, the ability to run 5-8 miles at a 8 mile per hour rate, and be able to run at a slow...
