My son threw up hard white chunks

My son is getting his tonsils out in 2 weeks and he woke up today with a horrible tummyache and sore throat. He threw up a two to three inch long white chunk. I know the dr said his tonsils drain bacteria into his stomach-is that what I am seeing?
