Anticoagulants and Thrombolytics

Anticoagulants prevent blood from clotting while Thrombolytics dissolve and disperse blood clots. Anticoagulants include Warfarin, Heparin, Certoparin, Bivalirudin, Dalteparin, Enoxaparin etc. Thrombolytics include t-PA, reteplase, tenecteplase, anistreplase, streptokinase and urokinase. Talk about them on this forum.

My father has a blood clot and his doctor prescribed to him Coumadin. I’m afraid that he can get a stroke. I thought that this medication is used just for prevention. Now I don’t know will Coumadin help already present clots dissolve? Does anybody know something more about this? Thanks!

New Meds for me

I,m at the Cleveland Clinic and they are putting me on some new meds for my condition. they are coumadine and sotalol. any one else take thes meds. they are keeping me for the weekend to moniter me and see how the meds are going to work for me.
