Didn't take placebo pills...period is a week late

I was on the pill less than a month. Stopped taking pack when I got to the placebos, and didn't start a new pack. I expected my period a week ago and HPTs have come back negative. Could skipping the placebos affect my cycle or could it be getting off the pill in general?
