black outs the morning after

I had a couple of strong drinks late one night. The next morning I took out the trash, got in my car and buckled in. Less than 5 minutes later I had a blackout and hit a tree. Can a blackout occur several hours after drinking. How many hours after drinking can a blackout occure?
