Can't access morning after pill - can I take big dose of normal pills instead?

Is it true that if you can't access the morning after pill within the required 72hrs that you can take a big dose of normal daily contraceptive pills?? If so how many? And what is the risk of actually falling pregnant if you've just missed one day of the pill?? thanks
